Energy-per-token from Epoch AI + academic papers (Luccioni 2024, Stanford 2024). Grid intensity from IEA. Water from Google + Microsoft sustainability reports. Estimates have 2-5× uncertainty.
Is this exact?
No — within an order of magnitude. Provider operational data is confidential. For a 100% accurate number you'd need direct carbon accounting from the provider. Use this for relative comparison + ESG reporting ballpark.
Why water?
